Splash! Splish! Sploosh! Let’s Go Swimming! Tips For Making This Pool Season Both Safe and Fun
May is here and for many of us this means time to open the pool! If you have an underground pool, above ground pool, or a temporary pool that you take down each season, today we will discuss tips and ideas to make your pool safe and fun and how this could affect your Ohio home insurance.
Chances are if you own a pool of any type, you have already gone down this road with your Ohio home insurance carrier. I know at times it may seem that your insurance agent teeters on the edge of being a nuisance about such things and I can promise you, as an agent, we have your best interest at heart. Keep in mind the following tips when you open your pool this summer and the effects it could have on your Ohio home insurance:
- Make sure your pool is fenced completely around.
- Your above ground pool MUST have a self locking gate that leads to the pool.
- Please remove all diving boards and slides. If you chose to keep either, your Ohio home insurance carrier may chose not to write you at all or may require you to exclude the liability.
- Keep a “shepherd’s hook” close by in case someone (or animal) would get into an area of the pool that they are not able to either stand in or are not able to swim.
Items 1-3 are likely required of you by your Ohio home insurance. Item 4, well, having grown up with a pool in my back yard just makes sense. I can remember a time or two when it was required to “fish” someone out of the pool. Also, keep in mind that the requirements of your Ohio home insurance are in place for a reason. Any liability incident that would occur would probably result in a payout from your Ohio home insurance and a lawsuit could follow. That is the last thing you would need. As always, you would have to be negligent in order for this to happen. And so we are back to the reasons for this madness.
I hope each of you will be able to take time to enjoy your summer and all the fun things that come along with the season. Stay cool but don’t freeze!
Tune in next week for what I have to say about trampolines! Oh the fun never stops!
